The Aequalitas Project is a nonprofit organization serving as an incubator for new programs that show great potential specifically for youth or queer communities. There are always a flood of wonderful ideas floating around the queer and youth-serving communities. The Aequalitas Project focuses on the ideas which show promise and takes them from early development stages to programs sustainable over the long-term.
Current programs include:
The Queer Camp Alliance is a global coalition of organizations and projects supporting summer camp style programming for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning and ally (LGBTQA) communities.
WikiQueer is a project I started in Fall of 2010 as a means of solving a number of challenges I saw in an existing organization creating a universally useful and sustainable wiki for the LGBTQ community. The project is under construction and more information on how folks can get involved and what the project's goals are will be coming soon.
The Harvey Milk Foundation was established by Harvey’s nephew Stuart Milk, who like Harvey has chosen to speak out as an openly gay advocate for not only the LGBT community but the collective communities of people who remain marginalized or diminished by inequality in the law as well as societal inequality. The program goals - to empower local, regional, national and global organizations so that they may fully realize the power of Harvey Milks story, style, and collaborative relationship building - are large and bold as Harvey taught us! I currently serve on the Foundation's Advisory Board. I'm also involved with the organization's DC public policy efforts, social networking strategy and Harvey Milk Day Steering Committee.
As a part of GLSEN’s efforts to support effective anti-bullying and nondiscrimination policies - we are assessing which state education associations and agencies (eg, state school boards associations, state boards of education) provide enumerated guidance or model policies that include protection on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity and/or gender expression. This assessment will provide us with previously unknown information to build an even better case for enumerated and inclusive policies and guidelines on federal, state and local levels. As we reach out to these associations and agencies, we’ll make sure they are aware of recent policy guidance from the Department of Education and efforts from such associations in other states to encourage them to take similar actions.
